Free and Inexpensive Ways to Get Your Home Ready for Spring | Budget-Friendly Tips for a Fresh Start
As the days get longer and hopefully warmer, it’s the perfect time to breathe new life into your home. Spring is a season of renewal, and there’s no better way to embrace it than by giving your living space a fresh update. The good news is, you don’t need a hefty budget to transform your home. Today, we’ll explore free and inexpensive ways to get your home ready for spring.
Declutter and Organize
Spring cleaning doesn’t cost a dime, but it can make a world of difference. Start by decluttering each room, getting rid of items you no longer need. Create designated spaces for everything and invest in affordable storage solutions like bins, baskets, and shelves to keep your belongings organized. Need Decluttering Motivation?
Bring The Outdoors In
Embrace the beauty of spring by incorporating natural elements into your home. Collect flowering branches, (these are from our crab apple tree above), fresh flowers, or leaves from your garden or a nearby park and create simple, budget-friendly floral arrangements. Place them in vases or jars to add a touch of freshness to your living spaces.
My mom has beautiful Forsythia bushes. They are usually the first ones to bloom in spring. I always ask her for an armful of the branches to bring in our home for spring. Don’t be shy to ask! Here are some ways to get free plants and flowers for your home!
Start Some Seeds
Get something growing. Even if you don’t have a vegetable garden planned, go ahead and start some herbs on your windowsill. A little green growing on your countertop will bring cheer and hope for something fresh and new!
You’ll be glad you did when you have one of those gray and dreary spring days that will surely come!
DIY Decor
Get creative and embark on some do-it-yourself projects. Whether it’s painting a piece of furniture, crafting your own artwork, or repurposing old items, or sewing napkins. DIY projects can add a personal touch to your home without breaking the bank. Explore a few of these tutorials for inspiration!
Switch Up Linens and Textiles:
Get your home ready for spring by changing out heavy winter linens for lighter, brighter options. Consider using slipcovers for your furniture, updating throw pillows, or opting for new curtains with light and airy fabrics. These small changes can significantly impact the overall vibe of your home. Switch out the winter hand towels in the kitchen and bath for bright spring prints!
Did you know that it is super simple to sew your own pillow covers? If you don’t want to sew, be sure to check Marketplace and local second-hand stores for curtains and pillow covers!
Let There Be Light:
Open up your curtains and let natural light flood your home. Clean your windows to allow more sunlight in, and consider rearranging furniture to maximize the use of natural light. Clean the window sills and wash curtains while you’re at it! Does this seem overwhelming? Clean a few windows each day. Focus on cleaning the dining room windows on Monday, then do the kitchen on Tuesday. Bit by bit you will get every room!

Add Fragrance
Whether you burn candles or add fresh flowers, there’s nothing like the sweet smell of spring inside. Even adding hand soap with a bright spring fragrance can brighten your mood.

Create a Relaxing Outdoor Space:
This is my favorite way to get my home ready for spring! We love eating our meals outside every chance we get! If you have a balcony, patio, or small outdoor area, make the most of it. Arrange some budget-friendly outdoor furniture, add cozy cushions and blankets, and create a relaxing oasis where you can enjoy the fresh spring air. Consider adding potted plants or hanging gardens to enhance the outdoor feel.
This is also the time that I powerwash our porches and sidewalks. If you don’t have a powerwasher, spraying with the hose goes a long way!
Update Your Entryway or Mudroom
The entryway sets the tone for your home. Give it a fresh look by adding a new doormat, organizing shoes and coats, and incorporating some seasonal decor. Consider repainting your front door in a vibrant color to make a bold statement without a hefty price tag.
