Metal Pole Barn with Loft Area!!
In this post, I show you the upstairs “reveal” or our Red Metal Barn. We are officially done with all of the finish work. I hope you enjoy getting a peek at the finished space of our upstairs loft!
Where We Started Before Our Red Metal Pole Barn
I thought it would be fun to show you a few pictures of where we started and then show you how it looks now. There are three other parts to the Red Metal Barn posts. Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3. I hope you check them out.
Concrete Work Around Our Metal Building
We just got the concrete work finished this week. I’ll show you that as well. This has made it sooooo much nicer. We had some bad groundwork done previously. Every time it rained, water just poured into the downstairs area, making a huge muddy mess inside. We didn’t have the money to do the concrete work from the beginning, and thought we could live without it. And we did, for a year. Now, it is such a wonderful improvement, and we are so happy with it!
The Loft are in Our Red Metal Pole Barn
Here are a few shots of the space right after the building was put up.
And here’s the after….before we painted the doors.
We are so delighted with how this turned out. I am glad I looked at the pictures, because it makes me so happy to see all we’ve accomplished! We second guessed ourselves a few times along the way. Did we choose too many shelves? Too many barn doors? Was the ceiling too much work? However, now that it is all done, we feel like we made all the right choices. Isn’t it funny how you can overthink things that aren’t really that important?
We meet at our home for church on Sundays. So far we have met up here twice and the extra space is glorious! After service yesterday, my daughter said that the colors and the lights makes it such a peaceful place. I agree! Some of these pictures were taken with a phone. I don’t have a wide angle lens for my camera, and I couldn’t get a whole room shot with it! So, I went for a phone. The pictures are not as clear as I would like!
The Barn Doors in The Barn Loft
We are working on a detailed tutorial for building these doors. I consider my husband a barn door building expert now! I am so thankful for his labor that went into these doors! Well, and of course his little helper too. It was a ton of work to build eight doors! I think they are the star of the show!
One of the things that stumped me for the longest time was how to finish the doors. I listened to everyone’s opinions, all of my friends and family, strangers and people on Instagram. Some people thought they looked good raw, unfinished. I agree that in pictures they did look nice, but something about them in person felt…unfinished. Lots of people thought staining them to match the floors was a good idea. However, staining pine is a pain. Sanding already assembled doors is also a pain! I kept going back to the “easy route” paint.
My first choice was a dark charcoal, almost black. I had a million samples taped to the doors for months. However, many people said they thought it would close the space in. The more I thought about it, the more I realized they were probably right. That would be a lot of dark, and the space is so nice and light! I went the opposite and considered a white wash, but then thought it was too much white. See….I was totally stumped!
An Epiphany–Ha!
Finally something just came to me! What about a light greyish blue? I thought of the colors in the Magnolia line of paint at Ace. I love her neutral colors, even the blues and pinks have a neutral undertone. So, I made a trip to the store and found a color that I loved! It is called Americauna Egg. How fitting for a farm! The color is so lovely! It is a blue/green/grey, I think it compliments the walls and the floors so well!

Using The Barn Loft Space
We are so happy to have all of this extra space. So far, the kids have used it as a play area on rainy days. The older girls sneak up here during the school day for some peace and quiet…I don’t blame them! We meet up here for church on Sunday. We have a ping-pong and foosball table at my parents house that will make their way here this weekend.
I plan to move all of my sewing supplies up here. There are plans in my head for a table under the far windows. My husband has agreed to try to build it!!
We put an electric piano in one corner, simply because electric pianos are much lighter than an acoustic piano. The musicians in the family are having a great time up here practicing together. So, I guess it is acting as a bit of a studio as well!
Here’s a quick video tour
Dreams for the Barn Loft
I would love to host mother daughter craft days. A day where a mom and daughter could spend some time together and make some fun things. I don’t have all of the details worked out in my mind, but it’s a fun dream. We would need to wait until we can put plumbing in, because no one wants to run back and forth to the house in order to use the restroom! You know– boring details like that!
Love, love, LOVE THIS SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m giving you a standing ovation!!!!!!!!!!
Can I feature this on Thistlekeeping?
Happy weekend friend!

Thank you Jenny! Maybe someday you and your daughter can come here and craft with us!
Your barn looks absolutely amazing! I agree with you on the barn door colors, that grayish blue was the perfect choice! I imagine its such a great area for so many different things! And your hubby should win an award for building all those barn doors! They look fantastic!
I know, he is amazing! I am so grateful for him and for all he is able and willing to do! Thanks for the kind comment!
Hi Jenn!
Okay, I am in LOVEEEE with this barn remodel! At first, I was like, ” There is NO WAY she is putting her animals in this barn with all this beauty!”, and then I read that you guys are using the space for extra hanging out space, kids areas, etc.
The buffalo check in the cubbies is super adorable too!
I’m thinking that space would be awesome to host Thanksgiving in and holiday’s get-togethers.
Totally in love! It looks great, good job! 😊

Hello Jenn,
I just bought my home in New Hampshire, US, a 200 year old with a barn. I love ancient and historic properties. It was built in 1840. How do I go about restoring the barn. I want to use it for supported living and caring . I am a Registered Nurse with specialized in psychiatry. I would love to see the barn serve and transform lives.
I am single and working hard to save up to restore this beautiful barn. Where do I start please. Your advice will be highly appreciated.
Thanks
Kennie
Hi there! That sounds like a wonderful endeavor! Unfortunately I am not an expert on barn restoration! This was a pole barn that we built in 2018.
What an incredible space you have! This is dream board worthy for sure! Thanks for sharing your space, it is beautiful!
Thank you so much! It was definitely a labor of love!
