DIY Sunglass or Glasses Case
This diy sunglass or glasses case is simple to make and will do a nice job of keeping your glasses from getting scratched in your purse. Easy enough for a beginner sewing enthusiast!
Materials and Tools Needed for DIY Glasses Case
- Fabric strips 4.5″-5″ wide by 16″ long, measure your glasses to ensure you make it big enough. (4.5″ was fine for my glasses) I got my fat quarter fabric at Hobby Lobby (similar here and here)
- Interfacing: I used Pellon 808, but you could use 809, 931, SF101 or 987. Any fusible interfacing that has some rigidness to it. The cheapest place will likely be your local craft store.
- Snap kit
- A hammer
- Sewing Machine
Steps for Making a Glasses Case
- First cut Two contrasting strips of fabric, 4.5″-5″″ wide by 16″ long I cut mine 4.5″ and my glasses fit perfectly.
- Cut one piece of interfacing the same size 4.5″-5″″x 16″
- Next iron the fusible interfacing to one wrong side of one strip of fabric, it doesn’t really matter which one you adhere it to.
- Place your two strips right sides together and stitch all the way around, leaving about 2″opening at one end. Use a 1/4″ inseam
- Trim all around the edges to 1/8″, and trim off the corners. This will give you less bulk when you turn it right side out.
- Turn it all right side out using the opening. This will feel wrong as you will have to crunch up the stiff interfacing, it will be fine you can press it all out nice and neat again. Use a poker or the end of a pencil to push out the corners and get everything nice and neat.
- Give it a press
- Stitch the opening closed
Make the Sunglass Case
This is so simple as you are really just folding the fabric to create a pouch.
- Choose which side you want to be the inside and which one should be the outside, Now Fold the bottom up to about 2.5″ from the top. The top will be the flap
- Top stitch all around the sides and bottom, you can top stitch around the flap as well. This just gives it a more finished look. Make sure your thread is matching or a good contrast.
- Fold the top over and press
Add the Snap to the Glasses Case
I bought this snap kit and I think they are good
- Follow the instructions, you can use the kit to make the hole as well
- Once you have the hole on the flap, fold it over line it up, and make the second hole on the body of the pouch
- Attach the snaps.
- Trim up any stray strings and you are all done!
